Zuiderdam offers a 15-day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Quebec City in May, with late-night departures from Newport, Maine, and Charlottetown. Volendam offers 10- and 11-day itineraries between Boston and Montreal during the summer and fall. An 11-day "Canada and New England Circle" itinerary is added, departing from Boston or Montreal and visiting various ports.

The Holland America fleet
It also draws cruisers who care more about the destinations they visit on a cruise than onboard attractions. Because of its smaller size, Volendam has fewer features and amenities than most other Holland America ships, particularly the ships of the newest Pinnacle Class and another recent group of vessels called the Signature Class. Pinnacle Class ships also have all of Holland America's signature entertainment venues — something that can't be said for the line's older vessels.
As a nod to its heritage, the cruise line still maintains the practice of giving its ships Dutch names. Many of the names have been recycled in the company’s 150-year history and most derive from directional terms, cities, or landmarks. The line also incorporates touches of the Netherlands across its fleet, like at its traditional dining venue the Grand Dutch Café. Because of their smaller size, they also have fewer features and amenities than the ships in the other Holland America classes — particularly the ships of the newer Pinnacle and Signature classes. In size, the vessels are just a tad smaller than the Signature Class ships — about 5% smaller, to be exact.
